SAN FRANCISCO BASED ASIAN AMERICAN BAND “BENTO” TO PERFORM AT THE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PASADENA
WHAT:
2006 Cherry Blossom Festival Pasadena
WHEN:
Saturday – April 1, 2006
from 2:30 pm - 3:15 pm on the Main Stage
WHERE:
Rose Bowl, 1001 Rose Bowl Drive ,
Pasadena , CA 91103
The 2006 Cherry Blossom Festival Pasadena is excited to announce the performance of the San Francisco based Asian American band BENTO featuring Scott Iwata, Elvin Reyes, Angelito Mesina, and Jamie Quon an ethnic blending of Japanese, Filipino and Chinese heritage.
Combining a cheap tape recorder, an acoustic guitar, and “Mayonnaise” may sound a bit odd, but that's how it all started for the San Francisco bay area band known as Bento. Consisting of singer/guitarist Scott Iwata, guitarist Elvin Reyes, bassist Angelito Mesina, and drummer Jamie Quon, the alternative pop/rock quartet is currently setting goals towards their 2 nd full length album. Of worth noting, Guitarist, Elvin Reyes was co-founder of Classified Records and produced such artists as Jocelyn Enriquez, Pinay, and Julieplug prior to joining Bento.
Their first CD “ Absent Without Leave ” features eight songs written by Iwata and shares credits on two songs with Mesina. It was produced by Reyes and Co-Produced by Iwata. A review of their album by Hyphen Magazine: “Like the Styrofoam-encased lunch combo they're named after, alternative rock quartet Bento fills bellies with recommended daily allowances of gently sweeping guitars with no empty calories. Absent Without Leave ranges from the quietly sublime to the confidently noisy. They've got the hunched over, Radiohead/Sonic Youth thing on lock, without appearing to try too hard. ” Their band's name was coined by Iwata's mother while they were eating a traditional Japanese dinner feeling that the name represented a variety of bits and pieces, which come together to form as one. An article published in the East Bay Express dubs them as “ four sensitive guys who drive girls crazy ”. This because of their sweet melodies and youthful charm! From California to the East coast, Bento has performed in events and shows of all types. The group has also been featured on various radio and television programs including StirTV, Pacific Fusion, and California Music Channel.
From their recordings to their live shows, these guys blend their individual styles to create modern music that demands attention. After all, Bento does refer to a variety of bits and pieces coming together to form as one, which is a fitting name for the 4-piece band. Visit www.bentomusic.com or www.myspace.com/bento The Cherry Blossom Festival Pasadena is an event produced by RYOMA.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is produced by a 100% volunteer team and underwritten by private donations and sponsors. The Festival celebrates Spring through Cherry Blossoms and promotes the Japanese as well as the very diverse Japanese American cultures and donates 100 cherry trees yearly to the City of Pasadena . To date 400 “Pink Cloud” Cherry Blossom Trees have been planted in the City. The Festival is held at the Rose Bowl on April 1 st and 2 nd , 2006 and is a Free Entrance to the public event at the Rose Bowl.
